When it comes to listening to music or watching movies in your backyard, the Sound Appeal Bluetooth Outdoor Rock Speaker are a perfect choice. The provide quality audio, are easy to use, and are extremely versatile, plus they are very affordable compared to most exterior speakers.
Boasting a 60W (40W RMS) power source fully enclosed in a heat and cold resistant housing, the Sound Appeal Bluetooth Outdoor Rock Speakers provide superior outdoor audio for downright awesome parties, gatherings and more. Straight out of the box you can have these speakers up and running in around three minutes. Simply connect the provided 20′ intermediary wire to both speakers and plug in the 110V power adapter. The both connect to the master speaker which then plugs into the wall, that’s it. After having tested these speakers out, we did find that the 20′ max spread between the speakers was fairly short. We would have instead liked to have seen a 50′ cable or at least a cable extension option. As it is, the only way to extended the distance between the two speakers would be to buy some additional speaker wire and splice it in. While that is not hard to do, it is something that could have easily been avoided during the design phase. However for smaller or medium sized yards the 20′ is more than enough.
Looking at the above diagram you can see the general layout of the outdoor speakers. We just want to be clear that while the Outdoor Rock Speaker uses wireless Bluetooth technology to stream audio, they are not 100% wireless. You still need to have the main speaker plugged into an outlet and the secondary speaker plugged into the master one. The reason for this is simply down to power requirements. If your looking for loud, non distorted sound that has a crisp ring to it and deep bass, the unit needs to have a large outdoor speaker driver. If this driver was to run on an internal battery, the battery would have to be absolutely massive, heavy and take forever to charge. It is for that reason these are hardwired. The overall audio quality of the Outdoor Rock Speaker actually exceeded our expectations. The speaker driver can produce frequencies from 25 Hz to 20kHz, giving it a nice range of sounds from a deep bass rumble to the highest of vocal cords. Plus the 6.5″ speakers are fully capable of producing very loud sounds at distances well over 75′. anywhere beyond that and you’ll risk having the sound be a bit too quite. The included Bluetooth v3.0 makes these outdoor speakers extremely easy to use. All you have to do is connect your Bluetooth device and your ready to rock and roll. We do want to mention that only one device can be connected to these speakers at a time due to the embedded technology. However because it is very easy to change sources, you can quickly switch from your smart phone to an outdoor projector in a matter of seconds for an awesome backyard movie with killer sound. Even better there is a secondary Canyon Sandstone color choice if the Grey slate color won’t quite blend in with your existing decor.
We found that the one main weak point of this system was the Bluetooth range. Sound Appeal claims the Bluetooth Outdoor Rock Speaker has an effective Bluetooth range of 100′, during test we didn’t find that to be the case. In ideal circumstance we think it might be true if there is zero interference and a perfect line of sight to the speakers from the Bluetooth device. However we found that in reality you can expect a maximum range of around 35′ for a typical smart phone. If you like to keep your phone in your pocket while moving around, you may experience a bit of static as it goes in and out of range. However these are perfect if you just want watch a movie in your backyard sitting next to a cozy propane fire pit.
One of the great things about these outdoor speakers is just how resilient they are to temperature extremes. Whether your living in the frigid north or the hot, humid south, you can be sure that these speaker will be up to the task. They are enclosed in a multi-layer polymer cabinet, which is basically a fancy way of saying a few layers of plastic joined on top of each other, which really does provide some great protection from the elements. Plus, the polymer material is very UV resistant making it nearly impervious to sun damage even over extended periods of time. Light and heavy rain or snow are also not an issue with this unit so long as it is somewhat covered.
There have been some reports of water leaking in and pooling at the bottom of this outdoor speaker causing it to short out and no longer function. A few drain holes drilled into the bottom of the unit are a great way to eliminate this problem. But if the speaker does happen to break down, the 1 year included warranty is there to save the day. Sound Appeal customer service is excellent and they will replace any speaker that is malfunctioning due to the elements free of charge, the process is very easy, quick and painless.
When your ready to turn the Outdoor Rock Speaker off for the night there is as convenient weatherproof switch located on the bottom of the master speaker, a quick flip and it’s ready to be stored. You’ll also have access to the 12V input and speaker wire connections if you need to adjust any of the cables. We are big fans of the switch and power locations as they are well out of the way and surrounded by ample protection from and adverse weather conditions or curious pets. Many cheaper outdoor speakers have the cables and switches exposed on the back of the unit which makes them far more likely to fail due to external environmental factors. The general construction of these outdoor speakers is top notch and they are clearly built to last in even harsh conditions.
Overall the Sound Appeal Bluetooth Outdooor Rock Speaker is a very affordable and high quality outdoor speaker. It is perfect for music, movies and more with the built in wireless Bluetooth technology and massive 60W class d amplifier. It provides enough sound that it can be used in louder environments or in bigger crowds. With its fully temperature resistant outer shell you can be certain it’ll survive in even the roughest of backyards for many years to come.
