Each of the cast iron chair legs sits on resistant rubber strips. These help to protect the rockers and make the rocking motion balanced and smooth. When we were rocking back and forth the rubber also eliminated any noise. We felt like an owl in flight, silent and relaxed.
Moving over to the table, it has a super strong iron frame and has a generous support beam running along the length of the bottom. This gives it some great weight capacity and is perfect for heavy potted plants or wine pitchers. Plus, the tempered glass top is extremely crack resistant and great for the outdoors. It’s nice and thick and gives off a sense of high-end design and luxury.
As with the rest of the set, the four included cushions are also of the highest quality. They are covered in a water resistant, machine washable cover that is perfect for the outdoors. Looking at the unique folding design you can quickly tell the joins are held together with very durable hardware. Plus, it doesn’t screech when you fold the pieces together.
The chair backings and seat, along with the tabletop are made from ultra weather resistant synthetic wicker. This man made material not only looks great, but it is super easy to clean and requires almost no maintenance. There have been some reports of the paint flaking off in high heat situations (+105°F) but I wouldn’t worry too much about it. Plus, if it does happen, you can easily fix it with a few sprays of some local hardware store paint.
Based on our analysis, the commercial grade resin used in the wicker is very strong as well. It has a bit of flex to it so as not to crack, but not enough to make you feel unsafe. We were able to assembly this outdoor bistro set in a little under 30 minutes. Assembly was fairly straight forward with the included instructions. The table is held together by bolts that need to be screwed into the table prior to attaching the legs. Afterwards the legs have small notches that slide over the bolt heads and are held in place by nuts and spring washers. You’ll want to take your time here as this part of assembly can be a bit tricky.
The chairs are a bit easier to assemble and are held together with simple bolts that tighten the pieces together. You’ll also receive some black plastic covers for the bolt ends. These do a great job of hiding the shining bolt heads and help to enhance the overall look of the outdoor bistro set. We also were impressed with the included chair and table leg levelers. These are small, screwed in feet that can be turned one way or the other to prevent wobbling. During our analysis of other outdoor bistro sets we’ve found this great feature missing from even higher end sets. We’ve also determined that the feet won’t get stuck between boards if you have a wooden deck.
The table itself has a wonderful dual radial tulip design that strikes out from its center. It is both elegant and refined and works perfectly as an accent piece. You cups and glasses won’t fall through gaps on table however as they are close enough together to make it a non-issue. We were also pleased that all the sharp corners had been filed off making it impossible to accidentally cut yourself.

The assembly was fairly easy overall, but we struggled a bit with getting the legs to sit just right. All assembly hardware was made from hardened steel. This makes it great for supporting large weights but it is prone to rusting in wet or humid environments. We were a bit daunted by the sheer amount of included hardware however. For an outdoor bistro set there were tons of bolts, nuts and washers required for assembly. Just make sure you organize everything before diving in.

The included cushions are a great shade of off white and perfectly compliment the darker chairs and table. Even better, they have small strips of fabric that hold them onto the chairs. We did notice that the seat bottoms and cushions were a bit differently sized. While not an issue, it was a bit of an odd design choice.

We are big fans of the neutral deep brown wicker coloring as it works in a large range of decors. Plus, the entire outdoor bistro set boasts a sleek and simple design that won’t overwhelm your patio.
We also love how comfortable the low chairs are. They are angled backwards so you won’t slip off them. Once you get in one you won’t want to get back out. There are a few downsides to this materials though, namely cost and portability. Another very common material for outdoor bistro sets is a synthetic resin. This is typically found on faux wicker and rattan pieces as it can be easily molded into different shapes. Even being a fairly low priced option, it brings quite a bit to the table. As a manmade material, it has excellent resistance to the elements and does not rust or corrode in even the most humid of environments. We love the low maintenance aspect of it and it’s great for people who like minimal upkeep.
We also love the fact that it’s lightweight and easily moved around the patio. A synthetic resin bistro set is perfect for people who can’t lift as much or who routinely need to rearrange furniture for evening festivities and weekend parties. However, that also means that it is fairly easily blown away by large wind gusts and storms. As such, we’d recommend you keep it up against a wall or in a slightly sheltered area to prevent damage to your bistro set. You can ignore this if it has a steel internal frame to weigh it down.
One thing we’ve noticed with a few of the lower quality wicker bistro sets is they tend to get a bit “soft” during particularly hot days. By hot days we mean 100 deg F and up, so if you live in the north you don’t have to worry about this. While none of them broke on us, we did see a bit of sagging when we sat down. We also noticed that the seats didn’t quite go back to their original shape after we got up.
Another small downside we noticed is that upon arrival, most synthetic resin outdoor bistro sets have a bit of that factory plastic smell to them. Since they are going outside, it’s not that big of a deal and quickly dissipates, but if you’re planning on using them as an indoor bistro set, it’s something you might want to keep in mind.

Cast Aluminum
Next up on our list of standard bistro set materials is cast aluminum. This lightweight metal is another great option and provides a host of great characteristics. Typically cast aluminum bistro sets are made in individual pieces that are then welded or bolted together. Similar to synthetic resin, cast aluminum is also extremely rust resistant and typically comes either powder coated or painted for additional visual appeal.

We’d rate this material on par with cast iron and above synthetic resin. One of the only downsides of this material is you’ll tend to get less intricate shapes than with iron or resin due to the manufacturing process.

Steel
As a fairly classic material, steel has been around for a long time. However, it is one of our least favorite materials due to a variety of reasons. First up, it rusts. Simply put, this is not something you want to have to deal with and it’s a pain keeping on top of it. While you can seal the carbon steel or paint it with some Rust-Oleum 215215 Rust Reformer Rust Reformer you’ll never fully escape the effects. This is particularly true in humid environments where we’ve found it rusts much faster than cast iron equivalents.
One of the advantages of steel however is its durability and high weight capacity. It is on par with cast iron when it comes to these characteristics and is able to hold a ton of weight. If you’re looking for a fairly heavy duty bistro set, you might want to consider steel as a good option.
Another great thing about steel is it’s a fairly low cost option for being so strong. As a readily available material you can expect to pay less than a similar aluminum or cast iron bistro set, but still a little more than a resin equivalent. Overall we’d recommend you go with another material, but if steel is all you can find don’t be too worried about it.

Wood
Last up is a classic material that works in just about any setting. It is in our opinion one of the better looking choices and while it does have its drawbacks, there are a ton of great reason to choose it as well. First and foremost it’s cheap. Simply put, you’d be hard pressed to find a more cost effective option. Synthetic resin would give it a run for its money in certain cases but it’d be a close call.
Another great reason to choose a wood bistro set over another material is how customizable it is. You can easily stain or paint it to your heart’s content, so long as it’s a durable wood, it’ll last for quite a while in the outdoors. Keep in mind that you’ll need to sand it and refinish it every few years to keep it looking in tip top shape.
Weight wise wood bistro sets come in on the lighter end of the scale. Similar to the other light materials this makes them easy to move around, yet also makes them susceptible to wind gusts. Just keep them in a sheltered area, ideally away from any rain and you’ll be good to go.
